On August 2, 2014, Dr Gabriele Strohschen received an Outstanding Educator’s Award from the Honorable Congressman Danny Kenyatta Davis, U.S. House of Representatives, 7th Illinois District, during the Annual Outstanding Education Recognition Awards Ceremony.

Dr Strohschen was recognized for her mentoring work of adult students in the graduate programs at the School for New Learning, and for her education projects in the East Garfield and Austin communities. Dr Strohschen and her SNL graduate students have implemented several education and intercultural projects with Chicago Public Schools, local CBOs, and community resident, including artists and parents, coordinated through her network organization, Community Connexxions. Several of these have been sponsored by DePaul University’s cultural programming.

The ceremony was cosponsored by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation and Rush University Medical Center.
